Prayer to the Most Holy Theotokos in honor of Her Pochaiv miracle-working icon

To You, O Mother of God, we turn in prayer, we sinners, remembering Your miracles shown at the holy Pochaiv Lavra, and grieving over our own sins. We know, O Lady, we know that it is not fitting for us sinners to ask for anything, save that the Righteous Judge would forgive our transgressions. For all that we have endured in life — sorrows, misfortune, and illness — grew from the fruits of our transgressions; God allowed this for our correction. Therefore all this the Lord has brought upon His sinful servants in truth and in judgment, who in their sorrows turn to Your intercession, O Most Pure One, and with a moved heart cry out to You thus: do not remember our sins and transgressions, O Good One, but lift up Your most pure hands to Your Son and God, that He may forgive what we have done, that for our countless unfulfilled promises He may not turn His face away from His servants, and that He may not take from our souls the grace that helps us toward salvation.

So, O Lady, be an intercessor for our salvation, and do not disdain our faintheartedness; look upon our groaning, which in our troubles and sorrows we raise before Your wonderworking image. Enlighten our minds with stirring thoughts, strengthen our faith, confirm our hope, grant us to receive the gift of sweetest love. By these gifts, O Most Pure One — not by illnesses and sorrows — may our life be led to salvation; but keep our souls safe from despondency and despair, deliver us, the weak, from the troubles that come upon us, from misfortune, from human slander, and from unbearable illnesses. Grant peace and prosperity to our Ukraine through Your intercession, O Lady; confirm the Orthodox faith in our land and in all the world. Do not give the apostolic and catholic Church over to humiliation; keep the statutes of the holy fathers forever unshaken, and save all who turn to You from the pit of destruction. And bring back to the true faith and repentance those of our brothers who have been led astray by heresy or who have lost the saving faith amid sinful passions, that, worshipping Your wonderworking image together with us, they may confess Your intercession.

Grant us, O Most Pure Lady Theotokos, even in this life, to see the victory of truth through Your intercession; grant us to receive the joy of grace before our own passing, as in ancient times You showed the inhabitants of Pochaiv, by Your appearing, to be victors over and enlighteners of the Hagarenes, that all of us, with a grateful heart, together with the angels, and the prophets, and the apostles, and with all the saints, glorifying Your mercy, may render glory, honor, and worship to God, glorified in the Trinity, the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit, unto ages of ages.
