Prayer to the Holy Apostle Andrew the First-Called

First-called Apostle of our Lord and Savior, chief Builder of the Church of Christ — all-praised Andrew!

You received Christ’s call to follow Him with eagerness, and left your nets — all your possessions — to follow Christ forever. We glorify and magnify your apostolic labors; with deep feeling we recall your blessed coming to us and the honorable sufferings you endured for Christ’s sake; with tenderness we kiss your icon; we honor your holy memory and firmly believe that the Lord God is living, and your soul is living also.

With Him, the Lord, you dwell in the Heavens and do not cease to love us with the love with which you loved us before, when by the Holy Spirit you foresaw our turning to Christ the Savior. And loving us still, you raise your prayers to the Lord for the needs of all of us — your unworthy descendants.

Holy Apostle Andrew! So we believe and continually confess, and with this faith we beseech the Lord God, our Savior Jesus Christ, that through your prayers He grant us all that is needed for salvation and eternal life.

Beseech the Lord, Andrew, that each of us today may seek not earthly gain, but care for our neighbors and be directed toward the Heavenly and the eternal.

Holy Apostle Andrew! Having you as our Protector and Intercessor, we comfort ourselves in the hope that your prayers will always help us before the Lord, our Savior Jesus Christ, to whom belong glory, honor, and worship, with the Father and the Holy Spirit, unto ages of ages.
