Prayer for soldiers going to war

Master and Lord, God of our fathers, we ask You and humbly and with tenderness we beseech You: look with mercy upon the prayer of us, Your unworthy servants, and as You once were pleased to go forth with Your servant Moses, leading Your people Israel out of Egypt into the promised land, so now go forth Yourself with this Your servant (name of the commander) and these soldiers, and be Yourself their helper and protector, and keep them, by day and by night, unharmed and untouched by any evil attack, illness, hunger, drowning, and from all fear. And as You once helped Joshua the son of Nun against Amalek and against the kingdoms of Canaan who warred against him, by the cross-shaped raising of the hands of Moses, that he might overcome them, and by this brought down Zeba, and Zalmunna, and all their princes; or as You helped Gideon with three hundred chosen men to overcome the multitude of Midian, so also grant strength, might, and a courageous heart, help and protection to these Your faithful servants. And as You aided the first of the Christian emperors, Constantine, to victory over his adversaries by the appearance of the Cross in the sky, so mercifully grant to these Your servants, who bear the name of Christ, victory, and strength, and dominion over all enemies and godless heathens, and surround them on every side with the encampment of Your Angels, and arm them with the strength and defense of the Precious and Life-giving Cross, in the name of You, God the Father, and Your beloved and only-begotten Son, our Lord Jesus Christ, and Your all-holy and life-giving Spirit, now and ever and unto ages of ages.

AMEN
